Outlast – Short Story Explanation
Outlast is a first-person survival horror game set in a creepy, abandoned psychiatric hospital called Mount Massive Asylum.
You play as Miles Upshur, a journalist who receives a tip about strange experiments and abuse happening inside the asylum. When Miles sneaks in to investigate, he discovers that the place has been taken over by insane, violent patients—many of them victims of horrific experiments.
The root of the horror is the Murkoff Corporation, which was conducting illegal experiments using something called the Walrider, a ghostly, nano-technology-based entity created from human test subjects.
As Miles explores the asylum, he uncovers disturbing evidence, barely survives terrifying encounters with monstrous inmates, and is eventually possessed by the Walrider.
